Cairn Terriers Dog Breed Information

Breed Description:
The Crain Terrier is a natural hunter dog, which belongs to the Terrier group. This breed of dogs originated in 1500 in Scotland and was mainly used as a hunting dog, for hunting the rodents and other small animals in the farms. It is a very active, intelligent and brave dog. This breed is also known with the name of Crains.

Physical features:
This is a small sized dog. Its average height is about 9 to 13 inches. It weighs around 6 to 8 kilograms. The Crains has a fox like look, with a small head and a sharp pointed nose. The ears are pointed upwards. Its eyes are brown or hazel and are covered with hairy eyelashes. This dog has a short tail, which is mostly pointed upwards. Its legs are short; the front paws are larger than the rear ones. The Crains come in a number of colors namely gray, black, red, sand and brindle. The average life span of this breed is about 13 years. The dog has a rough outer coat which protects it from the harsh weather and a fine inner coat.

Nature of Breed:
This dog is very intelligent, brave, active, and happy and is very energetic. It is a very quick learner. It loves to play a lot. It gets along very well with humans, especially kids. If not properly trained, or left alone for long times it can be a problematic dog. Also if they are not dealt with care and are misbehaved with or if the owner’s behavior is rude it can become very aloof.
