Breed Description:
Bearded Collie is considered a herding dog. This breed of dog is said to have originated in central Europe. The origin of Basenji’s dates back to the 15th century Scottish civilization, and were bred for taking care of the sheep. These dogs are very energetic, intelligent, strong and healthy. Bearded Collie is also known as Highland Collie, Mountain Collie, and Hairy Mou’ed Collie.

Physical features:
This is a medium sized dog. Its average height is about 20 to 22 inches. It weighs around16 to 25 kilograms. The bearded collie has a large head and teeth. Its eyes are wide apart, and are brown, hazel and light blue in color. This dog has a long tail. The body is covered with an exterior and interior coat. This keeps it safe from harsh weather conditions. Its ears are long and are close to the head. The collie has a short muzzle. Collie comes in a range of colours. The coat changes its colours throughout the life. Most common colours in adult collies are Black, Blue, Brown or Fawn.

Nature of Breed:
This dog is very intelligent and robust and can brave harsh weather conditions. A collie is a very self confident, brave and still very affectionate and joyous. It does not like sitting lazily or confined to a single place, and loves to run, jump and exercise a lot. They are not very ideal for apartment conditions, and make very ideal farm or sheepdog. These go very well with humans, sheep and other animals. Sometimes they are very possessive also. They can be a great companion for kids.
