Bedlington Terrier Dog Breed Information

Breed Information
This breed of dogs belongs to the terrier group of dogs. It is known to be to be used by the Gypsies for hunting and poaching purpose. They are also known to be used in illegal dogfights. The modern Bedlington was registered ion 1877 and is thought to be a crossbreed of Whippets. On average a bedlington lives for about twelve to seventeen years and some have lived for even longer periods. They are also known with the names of Rothbury Terrier and Rodbery Terrier.

Physical Characteristics
The Bedlington is a medium sized dog. The height of this dog varies from 15 to 17 inches. This dog weighs around eight to ten kilograms. It strongly resembles the Whippets, having similar shape of head and muzzle. It has medium length hair, about one inch long. The coat is dense and the hair is curly. The Bedlingtons are found in a variety of colours namely Liver and Blue; combination of Blue and Tan; Liver and Tan and Sandy and Tan.

Nature of Breed
The Bedlington is a very intelligent and cheerful dog which loves to play a lot. Also they are very nervous and serious at times. They love to chase wild games and hunt them. They can learn new skills very quickly. If they find something unusual happening they bark a lot, this makes the Bedlingtons very trusted watchdogs. They are very loyal to their owners. They love to be with their human counterparts and need proper care and affection otherwise they can become very aggressive and destructive if they are left alone for long periods.
