The Belgian Malinois is considered a herding or a sheepdog. This dog is believed to be originated in Belgium in the city of Malines in the 1900. The other names of this breed are Malinois, Chien de Berger Belge, and Belgian Shepherd Malinois. This dog lives for approximate 12 to 14 years. The Belgian Malinois is considered a very loyal, intelligent and very hard working breed of dog.

Physical Characteristics
The Belgian Malinois is a medium or large sized dog. The average height of a male Belgian Malinois is 24-26 and that of a female is around 22- 24 inches. The male weighs around 29-35 kilograms and the female weighs 25-30 kilograms. This is a very strong and muscular dog. Its tail is long. The eyes are almond shaped and the ears are erect. A Belgian Malinois strongly resembles a German shepherd. It has short hair and its coat is weather proof. The colour of this dog is either a fawn colour or mahogany with black tipped hair. Sometimes white spots are present on the chest and paws.

Nature of Breed
The Belgian Malinois is a very energetic, agile and playful dog. It loves to do lot of running and exercises. It loves to play with the owner and please him. The Belgian Malinois is a very sensitive dog. It responds to the owner’s mood, if the owner is upset the dog also seems sad. It is a very good watchdog and protects the owner and his property very nicely. This dog sometimes shows dominance on other dogs. It is indeed a very good family dog.
