The Bichon Frises belong to the non sporting group. The origins of this breed date back to 600 -800 BC. They are a mix of Barbet and White lapdogs. They were brought to western world by Italian sailors. They were used as boat dogs as they do not shed much and are small in size. The Bichon Frise is also known by the names Tenerife Dog, Bichon Tenerife, and Bichon a poil Frise. The average lifespan of a Bichon Frise is about 15 years.

Physical Features
The Bichon Frise is a very small dog. The average height of male Bichon Frise is 9 to 12 inches and that of a female can be up to 11 inches. The male and female have same weight, and it weighs around 3 to 6 kilograms. It has small eyes which are round in shape. The eyes are mostly black or dark brown in color. The tail is short in length and curled a bit. The Bichon Frise has a double coat. The outer coat is a bit curly while the inner coat is soft and silky. This dog is of white color and may have traces of cream shade.

Nature and Temperament
The Bichon frise is a very playful dog. It is always very active. It is a sweet and loving pet. They get along with the family very well. It loves to play with kids. It is very sensitive and gentle in nature. They get friendly even with strangers. The do not have any issue with other pets. It is very intelligent and can learn and trained very easily.
