The Black Russian Terrier belongs to the terrier group. This breed was developed by the Red Russian Army by crossbreeding a number of dog breeds. It was used by the Russian army in military works like as a guard to military installations, patrol parties and prisons etc. The other names of the black Russian terrier are Chornyi, Terrier Noir Russe, Russian Bear Schnauzer, Black Terrier, Tchiorny Terrier and Mustaterrieri Russian. The average life span of this breed is 10 to 15 years.

Physical Characteristics
The Black Russian Terrier is a very huge dog. The average height of a male is about 25 to 29 inches and that of a female is 25 to 28 inches. The male and female has almost equal weights, and both weigh around 36 to 64 kilograms. The Black Russian Terrier has a double coat which is quite weather proof and it can work in extreme weather conditions. It has very long hair. The colour of the Black Russian Terrier is mostly black having a few strands of grey.

Nature of Breed
The Black Russian Terriers is a very loyal and intelligent pet. It can be trained very well by a lovable manner. Its natural temperament is that of a watchdog. It is very brave dog. It protects its owner in any dangerous situation and is very intelligent animal. They love to be with the family and play with the family members. They are not very aggressive but protective in nature.

They have a dominating personality so it might not bond well with other pets specially a dog in the house.
