The Border Collies belongs to the herding or the working group. This is a very old breed and its existence can be found in the late fifteenth century literature. It was mainly used for herding the sheep. The other names of the Border Collies are The Border, the Working Collie, the Farm Collie, the English Collie and the Old-Fashioned Collie. The average life span of this breed is 12 to 15 years; some have lived till 18 years also.
Physical Characteristics

The nose is completely black. Muzzle is tapered towards the nose. The Border Collie has a medium length tail. It comes in a range of colours like Chocolate/White, Sable/White, Red/White, Red Merle, Yellow/White, Lilac/White, Blue/White (Slate), Tricolor, Black/White, Saddle Pattern, Blue Merle and Sable Merle.
Nature of Breed
The Border collie is a very intelligent breed of dogs. They always like to be busy and doing something. It loves to be with the human and wants to be the centre of affection. It needs to do something all the time otherwise it can damage household properties and may also develop disturbed behavior problems. The Border Collie needs to be socialized and trained right from the childhood so that they do not face any problem with other pets and human beings. Hence the Border collie is a very good herding dog and a workaholic.
