The Border Terrier belongs to the terrier group. This breed was developed in the England and Scotland to keep the vermin at bay. They were also used for hunting purposes like hunting of foxes. The Border terrier is also known with the name of Borders. The average life span of the Border Terrier is around15 years.

Physical Characteristics
The Border Terrier is a small sized animal. The average height of a healthy male or female Border Terrier is about 13 to 16 inches. The male weighs around 13 to 16 pounds. The female is a bit lighter and weighs around 12 to 15 pounds. The eyes of this dog are oval shaped and dark brown in colour. The nose is completely black and is button shaped. It has large folded ears. This breed has a double coat and the hair is coarse and wire like. It can be tan, red or grizzle coloured. In some cases a blue shade is also seen.
Nature of Breed
The Border Terrier is a very calm breed. it barks very less. It is very confident natured, but can also be shy in public if not trained properly from the beginning. They like to chew things very much. So they should not be left alone in the house, lest they damage household things. Since the Border Terrier a natural hunter so it needs to be socialized properly in case there are smaller pets in house. This breed of dog develops a great bond with the family and kids and enjoy being with family.
