The Bouvier des Flandres belongs to the non sporting group. The origin of the Bouvier des Flandres dates back to 1600. It is a cross breed of mastiffs and sheepdogs. It was bred in Belgium. The Bouvier des Flandres is also known with the name of Vlaamse Koehond, Flanders Cattle Dog. The average life span of the Bouvier des Flandres is around 13 to 15 years.

The Bouvier des Flandres is a large animal. It is a very strong and muscular dog. The average height of healthy male Bouvier des Flandres is about 23 to28 inches. A healthy male weighs around 34 to 41 kilograms. And the weight of a female is around 27 to 36 kilograms. The coat of this dog is a double coat having a finer coat underneath a harsh and dry outer coat. The hair length is medium. It has beard, moustaches and large eyebrows. The nose is black in colour. The Bouvier des Flandres comes into a number of colours like black, fawn, grey and brindle. Sometimes a white patch is also present on the chest of the Bouvier des Flandres.

The Bouvier des Flandres is a very calm and protective animal who can take good care of the herd. It is not an aggressive natured dog. It is very intelligent. It is wary of strangers but mixes well with people known to it. It is a very good watchdog. The Bouvier des Flandres is very easy to train. It is not very playful.
