This breed of the dog is considered to be a terrier or toy dog. This dog came into origin in the early seventeenth century in Belgium. It was bred to protect the stables from vermin like small rats and other harmful animals. This breed is also known by the names Belgian Griffons, Griffon Belge, Griffon Bruxellois. The average life span of this dog is about 15 years.

Physical Characteristics
The Brussels Griffons is a small dog. The average height of this dog is 7-8 inches and its weight is only 2.5 to 5.5 kilograms. This dog has a slightly arched neck. The coat of Brussels Griffons is of two types; one is the rough one and the other smooth one. In case of rough coat the hair are coarse and wiry, and in case of the smooth coat the hair are flat and near to the body throughout. The smooth coat is easy to take care and manage and does not need much brushing.
Nature of Breed
The Brussels Griffons is a very loving pet. It likes to be with the owner always. It is very sensitive in nature. It also wants to be dominant even in the presence of large dogs, which means trouble for this tiny creature. The Brussels Griffons does not bond with strangers and it might get frightened if touched by strangers. It can also attack that person. To overcome these problems the Brussels needs to be socialized from young age. It can be said that the Brussels Griffons is a very calm and cool natured dog.
