Physical Characteristics
The Catahoula Leopard dog breed is best suited to the country, or to living on a farm in order to run and explore during the day. This breed is also called as Catahoula cur, Catahoula Hog Dog. The life span of this breed is 10 to 14 years .This breed is classified by their lines they have into three types. The breed of McMillan line weighs 50-70 pounds, Fairbanks line weighs 65-75 pounds and Wright line weighs 90-110 pounds. The both male and female breeds have same weight and height of 50-60 cm .This Breeds have colors ranging from yellow, red, blue and even tan or white colors. The Catahoula Dog appears to large and extra large in size with moderate shed. The coat of this breed’s is short, so it is easy to maintain and suited perfectly for their active lifestyle
Nature of Breed
The Catahoula Leopard Dog is versatile as it is used for herding cattle, hunting the small animals like deer, rabbit, etc. And search and rescue for drug detection. This breed is with intelligent and adaptable to nearly every situation. In order to stay happy and energized, Leopard dogs needs to have a fair amount of stimulation. The high intelligence, quick access to situation, makes them perfect in law enforcement and also matches perfectly with young children. Since it is gentle to children, it is also used for home setting. This breed will wander and explore all alone due to high intelligence level. Good interaction should be there for this breed, since it is independent breed; it requires good interaction, unless it will not obey you. And also this breed is over protective in nature, which causes some problems .Hence this is the breed perfectly suited for every situation if it is given longtime training.
