Breed Description
The Chesapeake Bay Retriever breed is originated in the coast of Maryland in the year 1807.This breed is existed by crossing Newfoundland dogs with local retrievers. This breed has ability to swim in the very cold waters of the Chesapeake Bay. Hence it is known as Chesapeake Bay Retrievers.

Physical Characteristics
The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is a large muscular dog. This breed appears to be strong and solid even in puppy. The oily touch double coat on its body is uniqueness of the Chesapeake Bay Retriever. This breed is also known as Chessie. It has lifespan of 10-12 years. This breed is belonging to Gundog and AKC Sporting group. The male of this breed weighs (29-36 kg) with the height of (58-66 cm), while the female weighs (25-32 kg) with the height of (53-61 cm). The female breed gives birth to 7-8 puppies. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever appears in all colors of brown with red or mahogany highlights. The eyes of this breed are yellow to amber in color and are particularly striking on the darker colored dogs. This breed has short hairs with moderate shed. This breed is suited all type of life style.
Nature of Breed
This is an excellent family dog and is very good with other pets and children. It is more aggressive in nature than other retrievers. This breed should be socialized properly to be a good watch dog. The Chesapeake Bay Retriever is more stubborn than other hunting dogs breeds. This breed should be given consistent training to avoid problems, because of it aggressive nature.
