Breed Description
This breed is said to be existing from times of ancient Egyptians. This breed is originated from Germany. This breed is created from the mixture of French, German English hounds and terrier. The Dachshund is first verified from books which are believed to be written in the 1700s.This breed is developed mainly for hunting small prey.

Physical Characteristics
The Dachshund is an elongated dog with short legs and strong muscular body. This breed is also known as Wiener Dog or Hotdog and Dixie. The life span of this breed ranges between 12-15 years. The Dachshund is belongs to Hound Group. This breed has long or short hair with moderate shade. In this breed both male and female are of same height (35-45 cm) and weight (4-9 kg).The female breed gives birth to 1-3 puppies averagely. The Dachshund appears in two colored varieties including chocolate, black, wild boar, blue (gray) and fawn. This breed also has tan markings over the eyes, on the sides of the jaw, under lip, inner edge of ear, front, breast and throat and paws insides of the legs. Dachshund is very good indoor dog because of its size.

The Dachshund is very clever and active in nature. This is only breed has varying temperament from dog to dog. Dachshund is extremely playful, and loves playing hide and seek or chasing the owners and other pets in the home. This breed is brave and very good for work with fair amount of energy.
