This breed is created by crossing the German Pointer with several other breeds. The German wirehaired pointer is officially recognized only in 1920. This breed is most popular in Germany.

The German wirehaired pointer is a very distinctive and muscular medium sized dog. This breed has most distinctive wiry weather resistant coat. This breed is also known as Deutsch Drahthaar, Deutscher drahthaariger and vorstehhund Drahthaar. The German wirehaired pointer is belonging to Gun Dog and Sporting Dog Group. This breed appears in various colors like liver and white, black and white, and solid liver. The Male breed weighs (27-31kg) with the height of (60-66 cm). The female weighs same with the height up to 55 cm. The female breed gives birth to 6-10 puppies. The life span of this breed is between 8-10 years. The German wirehaired pointer has short or long hair with moderate shade. This breed is best suited in a home with a large fenced yard.

The German wirehaired pointer is a very intelligent, active and affectionate breed. This breed likes to keep busy themselves and enjoy doing work for their owners.
