Gordon Setter Dog Breed Information

Breed Description:
Gordon setter belongs to setter breed. Only setter breed has black and tan colored coat. This coat can’t be curly. These dogs have longer and broader tail. They have robust and sturdy body. Life span ranges from 10-12 years for both male and female Gordon setter. Litter size ranges from 7-9 puppies. The groups to which they belong are gun dog or AKC sporting group. Gordon setter is recognized by various kennel clubs like AKC, FCI, UKC, ANKC, NKC, N2KC and ACR. The color in which these dogs are available are black and tan with specific markings. Hair length is long. These are large sized dogs. Gordon setter male height is 24-27inch and female height is23-26 inch. Gordon setter male weight ranges from25-36 kg. Female Gordon setter weight ranges from 20-32 kg. It is suggested that these dogs should kept in house with small yards. Because they need little exercise. But these dogs are not preferred for apartments. Fenced yard is their basic need. These dogs also named as Gordon.

Breed History:
This breed was originated from Scotland in the 1600s. These dogs were known by the name black and tan setters but later known as Gordon setter. This breed was recognized in 1892 and in 1842 bought to United States. This is one of the most intelligent dog in the setter breed. This dog is most faithful show dog.

Nature of Breed:
These dogs have two face one they will ignore persons completely or become very friendly. They are well obedient hunting and watch dog. These dogs are easy to train. These dogs have independent nature. These dogs need regular training to stay obedient and fully cooperative.
