Breed Description
A dog very similar in appearance to the Great Dane has been found on Greek coins dating back to the year 36 B.C. The modern Great Dane is first developed in Germany. This breed is created by crossing Mastiffs with Irish Wolfhounds. This breed is originally used as dogs of war and for hunting large game.

Physical Characteristics
The Great Dane is a giant breed of dog, which is both regal and powerful in appearance. This breed is considered as the Apollo of dogs due to their size, strength and proud carriage. The life span of this breed is 6-8 years. The Great Dane is also known as German Mastiff and Deutsche Dogge. The male breed weighs (54-90 kg) with the height of (68- 74 cm).The Female breed weighs (45-59 kg.) with the height of (63-68 cm). The female breed gives birth to 8-15 puppies. The Great Dane is belonging to Mastiff and AKC Working group. The color of the breed is solid black, solid white, black with white face and legs (mantle), irregular black patches (Harlequin), solid blue (dark gray) and fawn (tan with dark mask and legs). This breed has short hair with moderate shade. The Great Dane is well in a house with a medium to large sized yard.
Nature of Breed
The Great Dane is a very calm and gentle tempered dog with reserved nature in their behavior. The Great Dane is used as terrific companion dog if it is properly socialized from young age. This breed is moderately active and it requires training to help them learn how to behave in a various type of situations. The Great Dane is not aggressive in normal situation. The Great Dane is a natural watchdog and its large size and imposing stare will usually result in strangers leaving the area immediately.
The Great Dane is an excellent companion dog.
