Breed Description:
These are mountain dogs. These dogs are used for guarding sheep’s in Pyrenees. These dogs protect sheep from any danger very carefully. These dogs are also trained to prevent humans from any attackers. So, these dogs are very loyal guard dog. They got fur on their body which is few inch thick. These dogs are purely outdoor dogs and prefer running around. Due to their large size these dogs take two years to get to the matured stage. Life period ranges from 9-12 years. Life span is same for both male and female. They have litter size of 6-9 puppies. The groups to which these dogs belong are pastoral, utility, working dogs, working and guardian dogs. The color in which generally these dogs are available grey with white spots at child stage and white at their mature stage. They have long hairs. Their size is extra large. The color of nose, skin and claws are black. Height of typical Great Pyrenees male ranges from 68-71cm. and height of typical Great Pyrenees female ranges from 63-68cm weight of normal Great Pyrenees male ranges from 49-59kg and weight of typical Great Pyrenees female ranges from 39-52kg. They got a great strength. So, these dogs should be kept in a long and strong fence. They are purely outdoor dogs. If these dogs kept in small yard then they become aggressive and nervous more quickly.

Breed History:
In Europe these dogs are famous with the name of mountain dogs. This dog was originated about 5,000 years ago in Pyrenees and about 12,000 years ago in Eastern Europe and Western Asia. These dogs are commonly known as farm dogs.

Nature of Breed:
These dogs are independent minded dogs. This breed is very good with children’s. These dogs are also named as Pyrenees Mountain dog, Chien Des Pyrenees, chien Des montaey, Ne Des Pyrenees, Mountanes Del pirineo. This dog is fearless.
