The Harrier belongs to the hound/scent hound group. The origin of the Harrier dates back to the 12th century. It was bred from the English foxhound through selective breeding. They have been mostly used for hunting hare and fox. The Harrier is also known with the name of Harehound. The average life span of the Harrier is around 10 to 12 years.

Physical Characteristics
The Harrier is a large animal. The average height of healthy male Harrier is about 19 to 21 inches, and a healthy male weighs around 22 to 27 kilograms. The female harrier is same in shape and size and weighs same as the male does. The harrier has a short hard and shiny coat and its hair is small in length. The colour of harrier is black, white & tan, red & white, black & tan, black, tan & white, lemon & white. The eye colour ranges from yellow to light hazel to dark hazel. It has a long neck. The tail is long and slightly tapered.
Nature of Breed
The Harrier is a very gentle, friendly dog. It bonds with everyone even strangers. It loves to play a lot. It does not like sitting idle. Also it does not want to live alone. It enjoys when it is with kids. They are good watch dogs but not good guard dogs because they tend to be too friendly. This dog is very exploring in nature and follows any scent. Because of this it is very good hunting dog.
