Breed Information
The Havanese belongs to the toy dog group or the Bichon group. The origin of the Havanese dates back to the seventeenth century. They were bred in Cuba from Bichon lapdogs of England. Today’s Havanese dog is a mix of French or German Poodle and the Blanquito de la Habana. The Havanese is also known with the name of Bichon Havanis, Havana Silk Dog. The average life span of the Havanese is around 14 to 15 years.

Physical Characteristics
The Havanese is a very small dog. The average height of a male as well as female Havanese is about 8.5 to11.5 inches. The Havanese weighs only 7 to 13 pounds. The front legs are shorter than the hind legs. The eyes of the Havanese are almond shaped and dark brown in colour. The muzzle is broad and the nose is square in shape. Ears are of medium length and are folded. The coat of the Havanese is of three types; namely smooth, curly and wavy .The Havanese can be of any colour including gold, cream, white, silver, blue and black.
Nature of Breed
The Havanese dog is a very clever, intelligent and playful dog. It bonds very well with children and it does not mind playing with them for long time periods. They love to be with the owners. The Havanese is a fearless animal and which is not shy. It does behave weirdly to a stranger but when it knows the owner does not have a problem it becomes friendly. They also feel comfortable with other pets. They are not aggressive but are brave
