This breed of dog belongs to the hound group. The origins of this breed are thought to be 5000 years ago in ancient Egypt. The Ibizan hounds hiver been used for hunting rabbits and other small animals. The Ibizan hound is also known by the name of Ibzy. The average lifespan of an Ibizan hound is 10 to 14 years.
Physical Features
It is a medium sized dog. The height of a male Ibizan hound is around 23 inches to 28 inches. The female is a bit smaller standing at 22 inches to 26 inches tall. The male weigh around 42 to 55 pounds whereas the female weighs up to 45 pounds only. It has a long neck. It has big eyes which are big in size and amber colored. The nose of this dog id rose colored. It has a long tail which usually hangs downwards but when the dog is alert the tail points upwards. This dog has three types of coat; smooth haired, wire haired and long haired. Ibizan hound comes in solid red, solid white and combination of red/white, white/tan and multicolored.
Nature and Temperament
The Ibizan hound is a very playful dog. It loves to be with the family. It is a very well mannered and intelligent dog. It is very watchful so it is a very good watch dog. It is very protective in nature. It is very sensitive also. It is not very good with smaller pets. If this dog is not properly trained it can become bad tempered and aggressive. Also they are quick learners so training them is very easy.
