This Irish Setters breed belongs to sporting or gun dog group. This breed was bred in 1700 in Ireland from the red and white setter breed. The modern Irish Setter was bred in 1800. The other name of the Irish Setter is the Red Setter. The average lifespan of an Irish Setter is 12 to 15 years.

Physical Features
The Irish Setter is a large dog. The average height of a male Irish Setter is around26 to 28 inches. And that of a female is 24 to 26 inches. the male is heavier than its female counterpart. Average weight of a male is 29-34 kilograms and the female weights nearly 25 to 29 kilograms. The head and muzzle of this dog are long. The nose is wide and black in color, having large nostrils. It has almond shaped eyes which are dark hazel in color. It has folded triangular ears. It has a long neck. The overall appearance is that of a well muscled and strong dog. It may have a long or a short coat. The color of Irish setter varies from reddish brown, mahogany to chestnut.
Nature and Temperament
The Irish setter is a very well mannered and kind dog. It is very energetic and needs lot of exercising and running g to stay well. It does not like being lonely and loves people’s company. The Irish setter is very friendly dog. It gets along very well withy children and smaller pets as well. On contrast is a very loving pet that is not aggressive at all.
