As it is clear from name the Irish Terrier belongs to the terrier group. The origins of this breed date back to two thousand years ago. It was bred in Country Cork of Ireland. This dog is also known with the name of Irish Red Terrier. The average lifespan of Irish Terrier is 10 to 14 years and more.

Physical Features
The Irish Terrier is a medium sized dog. The average height of a male is 14 to 18 inches. The female is as tall as the male is. The male weighs around 25 to 29 pounds. The female weighs a little less i.e. 22 to 27 inches. The Irish Terrier has a flat skull. It has long whiskers and a beard. It has v shaped ears. The eyes are small and dark in color. It has v shaped folded ears. The front legs of this dog are very muscular and strong. The coat of this dog is dense and wiry in texture. An Irish Terrier comes into a number of colors mainly bright red, golden red and wheaten red.
Nature and Temperament
The Irish Terrier is a very loyal dog. It can go to any limits for protecting the family, thus making it a very good guard dog. It is also very loving and affectionate to the owner and a very good companion of man. It is brave and intelligent and is very courageous. The Irish terrier is very active and plays a lot. It loves to be with the family and enjoys with kids.
