The Kerry blue terriers belong to the terrier group. The origin of this breed dates back to the 17oo. They were bred in Kerry County of Ireland. They have been used as a farm dog, guard dog or a police dog as well. The Kerry blue terrier is also known by the names of Kerry and Irish Blue Terrier. The average life span of this breed is 12 to 15 years.

Physical Characteristics
The Kerry blue terrier is a medium sized dog. The average height of a male Kerry is around 18.5 to 20 inches. The female is relatively smaller and is around 17.5 to 19 inches high. Both the male and female Kerry weighs same and has a weight of 15 to 18 kilograms. This dog is a strong animal. It has strong and muscular legs. The ears are pointed sharp and are folded downwards. The coat of the Kerry is soft, dense and strong. It has medium length hair. Black, Blue, Gray-Blue, Blue/Grey, Black Speckles and White Speckles are the common colours of the Kerry Blue terriers.

Nature of Breed
The Kerry is considered a very kind, gentle and affectionate animal. It is very loyal and obedient to its owner. Though it is kind at heart it can be mean with other small pets and dogs also. It has natural aggressiveness, which can be removed by proper socializing. This breed of dog requires a lot of activity and exercises to keep it physically and mentally fit. It has a natural tendency to protect others. They are very good at remembering things, making them easy to train.
