Breed Information
The Komondors belong to the flock guard/ working dog group. The origin of this breed dates back to the sixteenth century. They were bred for the purpose of herding sheep and other flock. The Komondor is also known by the names of Hungarian Sheep Dog and Hungarian Komondor. The average life span of this breed is 10 to 12 years.

Physical Characteristics
The Komondor is a very large dog. The average height of a male Komondor is around 20 to 25 inches and more. The female is relatively smaller and is around 19 to 22+ inches high. The male Komondor weighs up to 125 pounds whereas the female weighs up to 120 pounds. It has a very strong, muscular and wide chest. Its nose and muzzle are big but short in length. The ears are folded and are in a U shape. The tail is always hanging downwards. It has a huge coat having cord like formations. The Komondor is either totally white, or there can be shades of cream or buff.

Nature of Breed
The Komondor is a serious, self confident and commanding breed. it is naturally aggressive and protective. It protects the owner, family and property in a very good manner. It does not like strangers and can bark or even attack a stranger. So they need top be socialized since childhood to avoid these problems. It can behave in uncertain ways with the owners also. Therefore the Komondor is not a very easy going pet. A slight amount of risk is always involved when owing a Komondor because of its uncertain behavior.
