Breed Information
The Kuvasz belongs to the working dog or guarding dogs group. The origins of this breed date back to almost 2000 years ago. It was bred in the Easter Europe. This breed was largely present with the Hungarian people. It was used as a herding and guard dog of sheep and cattle. The Kuvasz is also called Hungarian Sheepdog and Hungarian Kuvasz. On average a Kuvasz lives for 10 to 13 years and more.

Physical Features
The Kuvasz is a very large dog. The average height of a male Kuvasz is around 28 to 30 inches and that of a female is 26 to 28 inches. A healthy Kuvasz male weighs around 45 to 52 kilograms and the weight of the female is 32 to 42 kilograms. It has a triangular head. The skin color and the nose are black. The coat of the Kuvasz is white and fluffy. It has medium length hair. The Kuvasz is mainly white or cream in color, sometimes ivory is also seen.
Nature and Temperament
The Kuvasz is a very intelligent and self confident animal. It has natural herding tendencies. It becomes very possessive of the herd; if it finds something or someone dangerous for the herd it can become aggressive and attack that person. It likes to be a companion of man rather than an obedient slave. For using them as herding dogs they should be introduced to the flock in an early age. It is a very self confident animal and it can take decisions on its own. If it is treated in a harsh manner it can become vey violent.
