These are small sized dogs. They have toy type appearance. These dogs have a life span of 12-18 years and litter size of four-five puppies. They are found in many colors such as sandy solid golden, smoke or slate, red, black, dark grizzle, parti color, white, honey, brown and combinations of the above colors. Their hairs are long. Their height is up to 11 cm and weight is up to 16 pounds. It is an ancient breed. It has beautiful eyes. It has features of very acute senses, intelligent and serious watchfulness. This breed is suited for apartments. It has keen eye and quick hearing which make him a good watch dog. It is a long lived and happy dog, it also love to please his owner. He is also good with the children. It is easy to train but it can be trained by positive reinforcement, kindness and rewards.
Breed History
The Apso came from Tibet this is the reason that they are also called the Tibetan apso. Word apso means a dog like goat. This breed was used as good watch dogs in the monasteries and temples by the Tibetan peoples. They respect this breed and they give it as a gift instead of sale of this dog.
Nature and Temperament
It is an intelligent, gentle, happy and little dog which is a very good watchdog. It is best suited for apartments. It is very affectionate and playful dog. It is good companion dog and always wants to be with its owner.
