It is a toy type small dog. It has a life span of 12-14 years and litter size of 2-4 puppies. It is found in white and light tan color. Its weight is up to 6 pounds and the height is up to 10 inches, they have long hairs. It is an indoor dog. It can become the victim of larger animals so they are not outdoor dogs.
They are good apartment dogs. They are very fragile. They are not good for small children but good with adult children. These are small, fine-bonded, but sturdy dogs. It has dark eyes with black rims. It has long fur on the ears. It has black nose and fades in the winter and become brown and pink. It has a long neck. It has long and strong legs. Although they have long hairs but this cannot save them from harsh weathers. Its teeth give scissors bite.
Breed History
It is believed that it is the oldest European toy breed. This breed was originated on the island of Malta in the Mediterranean Sea, this cause the name as “Maltese”. It was bred from a spitz-like hunter dogs. They were recognized in 1888 by the AKC.
Nature and Temperament
It is a very playful and cheerful dog. It is most gentle and well mannered breed among all small dogs. It is very energetic, affectionate and loving dog. It is a good companion dog and always wants to be with the owner. It plays well with other dogs, cats, and small animals. It is very quick to learn new things.
