These are extra large sized dogs. These dogs have a life span of 8-10 years and litter size of 6-12 puppies. They are found in many colors such as gray, mahogany, blue, black and tawny or any light or dark colors like these. They have short hairs. Its height is up to 30 inches. Its weight is up to 154 lbs. These dogs can do well in the houses as well as outdoors. But the house should be saliva proofed. It is a heavy-boned, massive, impressive dog. It is mainly bred to use as a guard dog. It has wrinkles on its loose skin all over the body. It should be massive and rectangular in shape. It is very loyal and affectionate dog. This breed has a wrinkled faced along with loose skin which gives it a different look.

Breed History
Piero Scanziani discovered this breed in 1940 in Italy. The breeds is said to be originated due to the breeding of the large dogs done by the Mesopotamians and the Sumerians. These dogs were used by the Romans, later they were used as a hunting dog. They were used to hunt the wild boar and deer.
They were also used in circus to fight with other wild animals.

Nature and Temperament
It is steady and self-confident, loyal, courageous, vigilant, and intelligent. It is a very good watch dog. Basically this breed was discovered in Italy as a fighter dog. This dog is aggressive but friendly with its master. It loves to be with its owner. It becomes anxious if left alone. This breed has loose skin with wrinkles allover the body.
