The Old English Sheepdog is a member of the herding group. The origins of this breed date back to thousands of years ago. They were mainly used for herding of sheep. The Old English sheepdog is also known by the names of Bobtail, OES, and Bob. On an average an Old English sheepdog lives for 10 to 12 years.

Physical Features
The Old English sheepdog is a large animal. The height of a male Old English sheepdog is nearly 22 to 24 inches. The female is a little shorter and its height is around 22 to 24 inches. The weight of the male is near about 29 kilograms and that of a female is around 27 kilograms. The Old English sheepdog is a muscular animal. It has a broad chest. It has a large black coloured nose. The coat of this dog is double and long. It helps it to survive even in harsh weather conditions. The Old English sheepdog comes into a number of colour combinations namely black/white, grey/white, grey, white markings and black markings.

Nature and Temperament
The Old English sheepdog is a very energetic dog. It likes to do some work always and does not like sitting idle. Historically they were considered fierce and undependable in the past but with proper training they can be made very good pets. They are very gentle and kind natured. They are very playful. They are obedient and take orders very well. They make very good companions dogs as they love children and spend lot of time with them. It needs constant attention and training.
