The Pekingeses are recognized as lapdog or a toy dog by most of the kennel clubs. This breed originated centuries ago in China. They were considered very sacred and were owned only by royal people. They were brought to outer world in the year 1860. The Pekingeses is also known as Peke or Lion dog. The average lifespan of a Pekingese is about 13 to 15 years.

Physical Features
The Pekingeses is a very small animal. The male and female are of same size and weigh almost the same. The Pekingeses is 6 inches to 9 inches in height. A healthy Pekingese weighs around 7 to 14 pounds. It has a very broad chest and head. It is narrower at the backside, so it is also known as a Lion Dog. It has a flat muzzle which has wrinkles on it. The lips of the Pekingese are black coloured. Its nose is always wide and black in colour. It has heart shaped ears which are long. The coat of the Pekingese is very long and dense. The Pekingese can be of any color.
Nature and Temperament
The Pekingeses is a very stubborn in nature. It is very courageous despite of its small size. It is a very good watch dog as it barks when it finds anything unusual. Also it is wary of strangers. It does not go well with other pets and if they have to be kept with other pets at home it should be socialized at an early age. It is very loyal and loving pet. It forms a bond with a single person in a family and becomes very possessive and jealous in nature. It eats a lot and can become overweight if not taken care of.
