The Pharaoh Hounds belong to the hound/ Sighthound group. This is a very ancient breed. This breed is thought to be in existence since 11000 years ago. These dogs were brought to the western world in 1960. The Pharaoh Hounds were bred for hunting purpose. The Pharaoh Hound is also known Kelb Tal-Fenek and Rabbit Dog. The average lifespan of a Pharaoh Hound is about 11 to 14 years; some have also lived for 17 years.

Physical Features
The Pharaoh Hound is a large sized dog. The average height of a male Pharaoh Hound is 23 inches to 25 inches; and that of a female is around 21 to 24 inches. A healthy male Pharaoh Hounds weighs around 23 to 25 kilograms. The weight of a female is around 21 to 23 kilograms. It has a thin head. The ears are sharp and pointed. It has a long tail which is curved a bit at the end. It has a very fine and thin coat. The hair length is short. The Pharaoh Hound is reddish tan colored.

Nature and Temperament
The Pharaoh Hounds is a very intelligent dog. They are very loving in nature and bond very well with the family. It is a very self confident animal which likes to take decisions on it’s on. The Pharaoh Hound is very calm in nature and not very aggressive at all. It does not like being with smaller pets like cats, and it can even kill a cat when the owner is not around. It can be great pet but only after a good training and socialization from an early age.
