Breed Description:
Portuguese water dog is a master pleasing dog. It is a very affectionate pet.
It is a medium sized dog having a life span of 10-15 years and litter size of 4-8 puppies. These dogs are mostly in white and brown color. But they can also have multi colors. These are good looking dogs with amazing coat mostly in black color. These dogs like to sit by the feet of his master. These dogs are generally white and have darker spots over their body. They need regular exercise but they can also do well in small places. They also want to be near the owner and his family. They do well as you give them more affection and care. They also enjoy to play in the water but if the owner is along with him. They never want to be outdoor dogs and they can only enjoy outside the home if they have their master with them.
Breed History:
This dog was bred by the Portuguese over 500 years ago. It was basically bred for the purpose of fishing this is why they love water. They were also used to move messages from one ship to the next, which was a very useful for the people having no communication medium at that time. They were also very good guards for the boats. They have good swimming abilities.
Nature of Breed:
These dogs are very loyal and smart. They love to play in water. They are dependable on their master and always walk around the owner all the time. They like to play with the children also. They are very energetic.
