Breed History
The Grand Duke Karl August of Weimer was responsible for the earlier stages of the Weimaraner’s development because there was a need of a multipurpose hunting dog. In 1980, in a dog show this breed was referred to as an “l’mongrels.” This breed was meant to hunt, and as the dog became more and more domesticated, the functions of bird-hunting and retrieving was bred into the dog for the needs of the German hunter. They were also known as “great gray hunting dog.”

Nature and Temperament
These are friendly, alert, energetic and intelligent dogs. This breed loves to hunt and run. It always wants open ground to run otherwise they will become lazy and unhappy. They have very short hairs so they also need homes to sleep indoors in cold weather. This breed needs to have an owner who can train, exercise, socialize, and love this dog.
