Beagle

Introduction:
This breed of dog also belongs to the hound family. It is said to be originated in England by cross breeding of different hound. It was bred mainly for hunting purposes, having a very strong smelling power. A beagle is a very efficient chaser and stalker, so very ideal for hunting. Average lifespan of this variety is about 12 to 15 years.

Physical Appearance:
This dog has a medium sized body. It’s not very tall its height varies from 13 to 16 inch. It has short legs. It has long soft ears which fall downwards towards the cheeks. It has large brown or hazel eyes. It has a very strong neck, which has a medium length. The tail of beagle is white coloured at the tip and it is curved a little bit. It has a medium sized skull and a medium length muzzle which is hexagonal in shape. The beagle comes in a variety of colours. Which vary from two colours to tri colours e.g. dark tan, light tan, liver, brown, black along with white.

Nature and Temperament:
The beagle is very friendly dog and it enjoys company. It bonds very well with the children so a very ideal pet. It can feel anxiety if left alone for long. It also bonds with strangers after a little hesitation; therefore it can not be trusted as a guard dog. It does not need too much exercise, though a little exercise keeps it fit and healthy. When a strange or unusual situation arises the beagle barks to inform the owner about it.

Cairn Terriers

Introduction:
The Crain Terrier is a natural hunter dog, which belongs to the Terrier group. This breed of dogs originated in 1500 in Scotland and was mainly used as a hunting dog, for hunting the rodents and other small animals in the farms. It is a very active, intelligent and brave dog. This breed is also known with the name of Crains.

Physical features:
This is a small sized dog. Its average height is about 9 to 13 inches. It weighs around 6 to 8 kilograms. The Crains has a fox like look, with a small head and a sharp pointed nose. The ears are pointed upwards. Its eyes are brown or hazel and are covered with hairy eyelashes. This dog has a short tail, which is mostly pointed upwards. Its legs are short; the front paws are larger than the rear ones. The Crains come in a number of colours namely gray, black, red, sand and brindle. The average life span of this breed is about 13 years. The dog has a rough outer coat which protects it from the harsh weather and a fine inner coat.

Nature and Temperament:
This dog is very intelligent, brave, active, and happy and is very energetic. It is a very quick learner. It loves to play a lot. It gets along very well with humans, especially kids. If not properly trained, or left alone for long times it can be a problematic dog. Also if they are not dealt with care and are misbehaved with or if the owner’s behavior is rude it can become very aloof.

Basset Hound

Description:
This breed of dogs belongs to the hound family. They are very efficient hunting dogs, who hunt by tracking the animals by their scent. They are mostly used to hunt rabbits, hares and other small animals. They are also known as scent hounds because of their characteristic of tracking by scent. The word Basset has been derived from the French word “bas” which means “low”.

Physical features:
The basset hound does not stand very tall; its average height is twelve to fifteen inches. They have short legs. The average weight of a basset hound can vary from 10 kilograms to 24 kilograms approximately. They have very long ears, which fall downwards. The ears are very soft and fluffy. They have very strong neck and a powerful body. They have a large build, and a long body. They have lots of loose skin around the neck which is wrinkled. The basset hound has a long tail which is curved a bit.

These are found in many colors, some of these are ;a combination of black, tan, and white; a white fur with lots of red spots, red body with feet and tail white; honey shaded back, while the legs, nose and tail are light brown in color, except for the white colored tail tip. It is also found in another shade i.e. lemon and white. It has a smooth and shiny coat.

Nature and Temperament:
This breed of dogs is considered very friendly. They can be trained easily by giving rewards. When they find something unusual or some problem they bark. Otherwise if they want something like food or attention they make a low sound, this low whine seems as if they talk to the owners.
A very good and trusted pet.

Basenji

Introduction:
Basenji is considered a hunting dog. It has been classified as a hound by a number of kennel clubs. This breed of dog is said to have originated in central Africa, from where they were imported to America and England and bred there. The origin of Basenji’s dates back to the ancient Egyptian civilization. These dogs are very intelligent, fast, courageous and very silent. Basenji is also known as African Bush Dog, African Bark less Dog, Ango Angari, Avuvi, Congo Dog, Zande Dog and Egyptian or African Dingo.

Physical features:
This dog is small in size. It has pointed ears, small eyes, very short hair, and a curled tail. It has a very nice looking neck and its overall appearance is very graceful and elegant. The basenjis are found in many colors, like red, black, black with tan in the traditional pattern i.e. Tricolor, and black stripes on a background of red i.e. Brindle, all are present along with white. The Basenji does not stand very tall; its average height is 16 to 17 inches. A normal Basenji weighs about 10 to 11 kg. Its coat is very shiny and smooth. A basenji lives for about 12 to 15 years.

Nature and Temperament:
The basenji is a very clever, intelligent and fast dog. Its loves to play and chew things for long times tirelessly. It is very silent and very patient dog. It is very mischievous. Though it is very intelligent but due to its independent nature it does not respond to training very easily. It is very friendly, but it should not be left alone with other pets which are not canine.
A basenji can be a very good friend of man.

In older times Akita dogs were used for hunting by matagis, due to their large size. At that times they were called Matagi Inu. Their size was not as large as the breed is having today. These dogs were used to guard kids and were also used in place of babysitters. They were also used for killing bears but usually they were used as guards. At the time of World War 2 a postage stamps at Japan were launched on this dog breed.

Nature of Akita

This Akita breed is recommended for guarding houses. The dog is not suitable for apartments due to the body temperature and size of this breed. These dogs are quite in nature. Due to this nature they only provide simple clue at someone’s entrance or presence. Before purchasing this breed we must be familiar to its nature to handle them easily. This breed is not a bad pets for humans, infact they are loyal to their owner.
