Leo: The Top Cat (July 22 - August 21)

1. The Leo Cat is a pretentious cat…one who is domineering and ostentatious, pumped-up with such an overwhelming opinion of superiority as to believe himself or herself ruler of all that is surveyed.
2. Known to be a gregarious, extrovert and lucky character (nine lives are only the beginning for the Leo Cat), this feline is convinced that he or she possesses high intelligence and feels every ounce of suffering because it is necessary to live among fools.
3. Occasionally the Leo Cat will relax,chase his or her tail,bite his or her toes.but most of the time, this cat will remain composed, as befits a true monarch of the realm.
4. Physically, the Leo Cat will have such a commanding presence and stately bearing that it will be hard to believe that this feline does not spend a great deal of time with a book on his or her head…but these characteristics will be inborn, along with a symmetrical body, well-proportioned limbs and the grace of a ballerina.
5. The Leo Cat often fares well in the show ring, frequently blessed with long hair and exceptionally beautiful features…particularly the Persian varieties. This cat is usually a healthy and well-adjusted creature.
6. However, perfection is rare…even in the Leo Cat…and the flaw associated with this feline will be a weak back.
7. Excessive climbing about on rooftops will prove to be a constant risk and it would be better for any owner to allow this cat exit through an open door rather than leaving him or her to manoeuvre through a cat-flap.

To a Leo Cat, home is his or her castle…the place where minions are entertained and advisors are consulted. Home is where this feline performs to large audiences and even hosts state banquets…all at the expense of his or her owner and, usually, inconvenience. A houseful of other people’s cats can be somewhat distressing (to say nothing of the smell). There is little an owner can do to discourage this habit…short of wiring shut the windows, fitting bolts to all the doors and serving only the plainest of food. A born entertainer, the Leo Cat will charm company, wrapping around a favored person’s leg before leaping into his or her arms without warning.

Leo: Boss (July 22 - August 21)1. The Leo Dog is the monarch dog. In short, a domineering dog…if given half the chance.
2. This dog sees himself or herself as a cut above all lesser species and will expect to be treated accordingly.
3. This is not so bad as it might sound, for the Leo Dog has a knack of persuading people to treat him or her correctly without those individuals ever realizing they have been manipulated.
4. Leo Dog will always be the perfect specimen, no matter what the breed might be.
5. Confident, fearless and proud, with a well-proportioned body, slender legs and graceful gait, this dog is utterly charismatic and makes for the ideal showdog.
6. The Leo Dog possesses a strong constitution with a mind to match but, if anything does go awry, then it will most likely be connected with the spine.
7. An owner should take great care to avoid any strain on this area of the Leo Dog’s body. To this dog, his or her home is a personal palace in which to “hold court,” probably issuing invites to each and every neighborhood dog who can be found.
8. Here, the Leo Dog will entertain his or her guests until it is time for the “walk-about,” when they will all trail out…with Leo in the lead, of course. Most Leo Dogs make for affectionate and cheerful companions, although they can a times be pompous and dogmatic.

Social interaction with humans is sometimes difficult for the Leo Dog. This dog will need to be put firmly in his or her place when just a puppy, or there will be the expectation that an owner will fetch and carry for this dog for the rest of his or her life. If this can be accomplished, then the Leo Dog will be a charming and rewarding dog, much easier to live with than might be expected. This is largely due to one exceptional and redeeming quality…the Leo Dog has a deep-set faith in humanity. Dogs which have been praised honored for bravery…or those pampered by royalty…are, more often than not, governed by the Sign of Leo. This dog rarely knows what it means to be afraid and makes for an excellent police dog, relentlessly pursuing criminals, entering blazing buildings without a second thought and tenaciously sniffing-out bombs. The Leo Dog, however, cannot bear to be ignored. The Leo Dog makes for an exceptional guard dog but has one strange eccentricity…he or she is often deathly afraid of cats.
