Libra: The Copy-Cat (September 22 - October 22)

1. From the very start, the cute little Libra kitten will be so unsure of what is expected, that he or she will model a lifestyle on that of the owner, copying mannerisms and patterns of behavior, which can be somewhat disarming.
2. Such studious dedication will be daunting in one so young, as this tiny feline devotes hours to careful observations and practice.
3. Most owners soon become accustomed to watching tiny, four-legged images of themselves walk around, but a few never come to terms with the idea. The Libra Cat is a fair creature and will expect to be treated as well by his or her owner as that owner treats himself or herself.
4. Completely indecisive, this feline will never know whether he or she wants to come in…or go out. In short, the Libra Cat is fidgety, often moving from an owner’s lap, to the radiator and then to the sofa in an effort to find the most comfortable spot.
5. It has been said that this feline a love dimple under the chin, a lovely mouth and a right merry countenance.
6. In comfortable surroundings, the Libra Cat will project an atmosphere of well-being which is pleasant to be around.
7. Lazy Libra has also been said of this cat, which is not totally unfounded since some of them are far too indolent…lying about all day thinking about things and then sleeping it off.
8. Such listless behavior can lead to weight problems which may be very difficult to rectify. A cat who is so fat that no legs are visible is not much fun and will not be particularly happy or healthy.
9. To make matters worse, this cat has a healthy appetite and not adverse to eating just about anything which is put into his or her bowl. However, if the owner is caring and sensible, drastic weight gain can be avoided and the Libra Cat can remain as hale and sylphlike as any of his or her feline cousins.
10. Destiny dictates that the pretty Libra Cat will invariably blend-in with his or her surroundings. Therefore, an owner should not be surprised if his or her tabby Libra Cat appears to match the carpet.

With a Libra Cat in an owner’s lap (this feline’s most stategic vantage point), there will be little or nothing an owner can get away with and privacy will be a thing of the past. This cat wants to be close to his or her owner all day, every day…watching, learning, thinking and copying. It is only in this fashion that the Libra Cat can achieve personal fulfillment…by literally basing himself or herself on somebody else. If the Libra Cat is denied this…if the owner is an active, doing type of person, for example…then this feline will be a sad and sorrowful cat…a cat without purpose who constantly wonders what it is all about. Nevertheless, in exchange for the tedious habit of constantly plaguing his or her owner for affection, the Libra Cat will be a truly loving and devoted feline.

Libra: Shop-Steward (September 22 - October 22)

1. The Libra Dog has one purpose and one purpose only…to improve the lot of the working or owned dog. This dog expects to start at the bottom but, within a year or two, will have ascended to a senior position in the household with quite a lot of “say” in things.
2. The Libra Dog will stand for less obedience, more food and a shorter working week. If an owner should ask this dog to do anything during the evening hours, then double biscuits are in order or there will be no response.
3. The Libra Dog is also a firm believer in the “closed shop” concept. In other words, one house…one dog.
4. Basically a well-balanced creature, the Libra Dog is not overly-emotional and remains totally impartial when argument ensue.
5. Physically, the Libra Dog always appears to be well-nourished…and this dog will make sure he or she stays that way. However, as this dog grows older,
6. Whenever a Libra Dog is out of sorts, with a dry nose and no enthusiasm for anything, the best cure will be twenty-four hours of starvation. The dog will not appreciate it…and an owner may be forced to follow the same non-consummables course…but recovery is often instantaneous when the next calorie-counted meal is delivered.
7. Every ounce saved while the Libra Dog is still a pup will mean an inch or so less in middle age. This is a fact that the Libra Dog would, of course, very much appreciate…if only such could be explained to him or her. The male Libra Dog will spend a lot of time in involvements with the opposite sex, but always in the most delicate and discreet fashion…unless, of course, his owner happens to be a blatant sex maniac. Usually, other dog owners consider the Libra Dog a pleasant and well-controlled animal who is never connected with any misfortunes that may beset their own pets.
8. The female Libra Dog may not be so easy. She will be so afraid of offending any male that shows an interest in her that she will not know how to say “No.” This misguided consideration means that if an owner has no desire to breed a Libra bitch, then she should be spayed…and quickly.

The Libra Dog will refuse to be banished to an outside kennel, unless the owner is also willing to take up residence within. The Libra Dog will never stand for being treated like a dog while his or her owner is permitted to live like a person. Since the Libra Dog models his or her life on that of the owner, if things go wrong then the owner only has himself or herself to blame. If the owner entertains a lot, with people coming and going all the time, then the Libra Dog expects the same privilege…except in such an instance, it will be other dogs coming in to add to the fun. If an owner really cannot handle that and wants to continue to keep this dog as a happy pet, then the only answer will be to cut out the human visitors. Nonetheless, the Libra Dog is possessed of a gentle manner and a great desire to please, usually remaining a loving soul as long as the love is returned. A large degree of affection is important to the Libra Dog and he or she will go to great lengths to display such feelings in the hope that the owner will reciprocate. This dog is not prone to being argumentative and, if tried sorely, will invariably become too frightened of upsetting an owner to show what he or she really feels. However, this does not mean that the Libra Dog will be blind to an owner’s bad points…he or she is simply tactful and very adept at glossing over such shortcomings for fear of losing security.
